WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

In 1942, Gilles (Biscayart) is arrested in Nazi-occupied France alongside fellow Jews and sent to a camp in Germany. He narrowly avoids death by convincing the guards that he is Persian instead of Jewish, but he is soon assigned to teach Farsi to Koch (Eidinger), the officer in charge of the camp’s kitchen who one day dreams of opening a restaurant in Persia. Despite knowing very little of the actual language, Gilles manages to invent a version of it to relay to Koch, and the pair develop an uneasy connection through their tenure at the camp…

IN ONE SENTENCE, WHY SHOULD YOU BE EXCITED?

Filmmaker Vadim Perelman, previously of the Oscar-nominated House of Sand and Fog, sprinkles a hint of hope in this Holocaust survival tale which tells a harrowing but powerful tale of deception during one of the darkest periods in human history.
