WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

In the 1840s, acclaimed palaeontologist Mary Anning (Winslet) leads a solitary life collecting fossils in the coastal town of Lyme Regis. One day, wealthy tourist Roderick Murchison (McArdle) entrusts Mary with the care of his young wife Charlotte (Ronan), who is in a deep state of melancholy following a personal tragedy. Although she is initially cold and hostile to her unwanted guest, Mary slowly opens herself up to the fragile young woman, and soon the two of them engage in a passionate and all-consuming love affair…
