WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

Omar (El-Masry) is an undocumented Syrian migrant who has been placed in temporary accommodation on a remote Scottish island with other refugees, who are all eagerly awaiting confirmation of either their right to stay in the UK, or the news that they will be sent back to their home country. Omar, along with his fellow migrants, find that passing the time is more difficult than it seems on an island where not much happens, but through a mixture of optimistic enthusiasm and dreams of making new lives for themselves, they soon find a way to cope…

IN ONE SENTENCE, WHY SHOULD YOU BE EXCITED?

Writer-director Ben Sharrock arrives on the scene with an astonishing feature that presents a deadpan look at the modern immigrant experience that is both funny and thought-provoking, and is easily one of the year’s best movies so far.
