WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

A young man (Koné) is sent to the infamous Ivory Coast prison of “La Maca”, located in the middle of an isolated forest and fully ruled by its inmates. Upon arrival, he is selected to partake in a storytelling ritual, just as a violent battle for control is about to erupt – but upon learning of the grim fate awaiting him at the end of the night, the young man begins to narrate the story of a legendary outlaw, which he hopes will help him survive until dawn breaks…

IN ONE SENTENCE, WHY SHOULD YOU BE EXCITED?

Filmmaker Philippe Lacôte’s harsh and brutal ode to storytelling is a mysterious and intoxicating blend of fantasy and gritty realism, making it an unpredictable but also compelling entry in the prison movie genre.
