WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

After a whirlwind romance, a young woman (James) marries the dashing bachelor Maxim de Winter (Hammer) and is transported to his family estate on the English coast. There, she comes into conflict with the cold-hearted housekeeper Mrs. Danvers (Thomas), and realises that the legacy of Maxim’s first wife – a mysterious woman by the name of Rebecca – still casts a shadow over her husband’s life, and eventually her own…

Ben Wheatley becomes the next major filmmaker to take on Daphne du Maurier’s classic gothic novel – it had previously been adapted into an Oscar-winning movie by none other than Alfred Hitchcock – and in doing so, he brings a modern sensibility to the timeless story.
