WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

In 1973, teenager Beth (Lillis) departs her rural Southern hometown to attend New York University, where her beloved uncle Frank (Bettany) is a respected literature professor. She soon discovers that Frank is gay, and has been living with his partner Wally (Macdissi) for several years in secret, but when news comes that Frank’s father – and Beth’s grandfather – has passed away, Frank is forced to return home for the funeral with both Beth and Wally in tow, and finally confront long-buried traumas that he’s been running away from all this time…
