WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

Winfried (Simonischek), an elderly man with a taste for practical jokes, pays a surprise visit to his hard-working daughter Ines (Hüller), whom he annoys with his constant pranks and disguises, which doesn’t sit well with her sterner and more focused manner. Soon, in another attempt to further make an impact on his daughter, Winfried dons the guise of his alter ego named “Toni Erdmann”, who barges in on Ines’ work life when he claims to be her CEO’s life coach. Ines soon rises to her father’s challenge in a battle of wits and eccentricities…

IN ONE SENTENCE, WHY SHOULD YOU BE EXCITED?

Positioned as a major contender for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, Toni Erdmann is an eccentric, cheerful and utterly hilarious German comedy that could very well disprove the common belief that Germany is unable to make actual comedy work.
