WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

In 1958, the adventurous and charismatic Robin Cavendish (Garfield) meets the self-assured Diana (Foy), and a romance blossoms with the two soon getting wed. However, whilst working in Nairobi, Robin contracts polio and is left paralysed from the neck down, whilst also given a short life expectancy by the doctors. Determined not to let the remainder of her husband’s life be dictated by the medical limitations, she ignores the doctors’ advice and breaks him out of hospital, gaining the help of Oxford professor Teddy Hall (Bonneville) who invents a wheelchair with an attached respirator to help Robin live a much longer and more prosperous life…

IN ONE SENTENCE, WHY SHOULD YOU BE EXCITED?

The inspiring true story of Robin Cavendish, a polio survivor who soon became a major advocate for people with disabilities such as himself, is lovingly brought to life with Andy Serkis making his directorial debut, and the real Robin Cavendish’s son acting as producer on the project.
