WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

Ernest (Broadbent) and Ethel Briggs (Blethyn) meet in 1928, and are soon married, own a house together, and raise their young son Raymond (Treadaway) whilst the world around them succumbs to the Great Depression, the Second World War, post-war depravity, and several cultural upheavals. All the while, they remain very much in love and devoted to each other, no matter what the situation…

IN ONE SENTENCE, WHY SHOULD YOU BE EXCITED?

This gorgeous and effortlessly sweet animated film is based on the real-life experiences of illustrator Raymond Briggs’ parents, and just like the material it’s based on is a beautiful love letter to a couple who despite everything stayed together and remained very much in love.
