WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

In 1940, young African-American attorney Thurgood Marshall (Boseman) is tasked by the NAACP to represent in court Joseph Spell (Brown), the black chauffeur of white socialite Eleanor Strubing (Hudson) who has been accused of rape and attempted murder. Along with inexperienced attorney Sam Friedman (Gad), Marshall sets out to clear Spell’s name and expose the deep racism that is still embedded in American society…

IN ONE SENTENCE, WHY SHOULD YOU BE EXCITED?

The long-awaited Thurgood Marshall biopic, about the very first African-American appointee to the US Supreme Court, focuses on one of the then-lawyer’s earliest and lesser-known cases, which helped make him the legend he is regarded as today.
