WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

In the kingdom of Denmark, young orphan Ophelia (Ridley) is taken in by Queen Gertrude (Watts) as one of her ladies-in-waiting, and soon she takes a liking to Gertrude’s young son Hamlet (MacKay), with whom she begins a secret romance. However, when Hamlet’s father is killed and replaced on the throne by his brother Claudius (Owen), Ophelia is left helpless as she watches her lover unravel in his desire for vengeance, and must soon make a startling decision between her true love and her own life…

IN ONE SENTENCE, WHY SHOULD YOU BE EXCITED?

Always a side-character in Shakespeare’s Hamlet, the tragic Ophelia is finally given her own time to shine in a film that explores the inner workings of her character, as captured by an exhilarating Daisy Ridley.
