WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

Within the housing projects of Chicago’s Cabrini Green neighbourhood, the local legend of the supernatural killer known as the “Candyman”, who kills those who summon him by saying his name five times to a mirror, was infamous. Now, years after the last few buildings have been torn down to make way for gentrification, visual artist Anthony (Abdul-Mateen II) and his girlfriend Brianna (Parris) move into the area, where Anthony becomes drawn to the Candyman myth, putting him on a deadly collision course that unleashes a brutal wave of violence…

IN ONE SENTENCE, WHY SHOULD YOU BE EXCITED?

Rising director Nia DaCosta teams with writer-producer Jordan Peele for a timely update of the cult 1992 horror hit, creating new scares while also honouring the mythos introduced in the original.
