WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

In England 1555, a rural and isolated community of salt farmers arrange for the illegal passage to Europe for an Indian Gypsy family, who are in hiding after the Egyptian Act is passed which forces all “gypsies” to leave the country. However, while the family awaits their passage on the farmers’ land, local young mute woman Patience (Douglas) pursues an affair with Rumi (De Souza), the son of the fugitive family, which threatens to disrupt both communities…

IN ONE SENTENCE, WHY SHOULD YOU BE EXCITED?

This bleak historical romance sheds light on the controversial Egyptian Act of the 16th century, which given today’s immigration complications also makes it a highly relevant movie to pay attention to.
