WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

In a small seaside town in 1959 England, widow Florence Green (Mortimer) decides to open a bookshop, despite the fierce opposition of local and influential socialite Mrs. Gamart (Clarkson), who would rather the shop be home to an arts centre. Soon, Florence is able to expose the small-minded townsfolk to the wonders of literature, and even strikes up a friendship with the mysterious Edmund Brundish (Nighy) who lives alone on top of the hill….

IN ONE SENTENCE, WHY SHOULD YOU BE EXCITED?

Books have never been a more powerful weapon, and that fact is re-enforced by this charming and sweet tale of a woman’s goal to bring a sense of culture to a very isolated community.
