WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

During the summer of 1947, Dr. Faraday (Gleeson) is summoned to the large but downtrodden estate of Hundreds Hall, where his mother worked as a housemaid. There, he befriends the Ayres family, including matriarch Mrs Ayres (Rampling) and her two grown children Caroline (Wilson) and Roddy (Poulter), but he soon finds that the family is plagued by disturbing visions from their past, and that his story is closely intertwined with theirs…

Lenny Abrahamson, fresh off of receiving an Oscar nomination for directing Room, jumps right into adapting the well-received gothic novel which is handsome but also chillingly effective.
