WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

In 1960s Montana, fourteen-year-old Joe (Oxenbould) lives with his housewife mother Jeanette (Mulligan) and his gold pro father Jerry (Gyllenhaal), whose marriage is slowly falling apart. When Jerry loses his job and sense of purpose, he decides to go and help fight an uncontrollable forest fire near the Canadian border, leaving Joe to adopt the role of adult whilst Jeanette begins to drown as she tries to keep her head above water…

Paul Dano makes his remarkable directorial debut with a screenplay he co-wrote with long-term partner Zoe Kazan, and features an incredible central performance by Carey Mulligan in some of her best work to date.
