WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

In rural England, 1865, a young woman named Katherine (Pugh) is unhappily wed to a bitter man twice her age (Hilton), who refuses to consummate his marriage. Confined to the house, sexually frustrated, and subject to the cruelty of her new husband’s family, she begins an affair with young estate worker Sebastian (Jarvis), which soon takes an uncomfortably dark turn…

IN ONE SENTENCE, WHY SHOULD YOU BE EXCITED?

This dark costume drama was a hit on the festival circuit – and also with us, as you can read in our early review of it here – and should take a good number of audiences by surprise with not only its daring and provocative portrayal of fierce womanhood, but also a captivated and star-making performance by Florence Pugh.
