This Week’s Movie Menu (10 – 16 November 2025)

Run all the way to the movies where you’ll be rewarded with some of the year’s most exciting titles, including an action-packed chase thriller, a magic heist caper, an animated journey into the world of dreams, and even the return of the Jonas Brothers…

Movie of the Week

The Running Man (dir. Edgar Wright)

CAST: Glen Powell, Josh Brolin, Colman Domingo, Lee Pace, Jayme Lawson, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, William H. Macy, David Zayas, Katy O’Brian, Daniel Erza, Karl Glusman, Simon Haines, Sean Hayes, Sandra Dickinson, George Carroll, Martin Herlihy, Sophie Simnett

CREW: Edgar Wright (director, writer, producer), Michael Bacall (writer), Simon Kinberg and Nira Park (producers), Steven Price (composer), Chung-hoon Chung (cinematographer), Paul Machliss (editor)

PLOT: In a dystopian future, working-class civilian Ben Richards (Powell) decides to become a contestant on The Running Man – a popular TV game show where players must survive for 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins – in order to pay for his child’s medicine, only to find himself fully thrust into the harsh and unforgiving reality of the show…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • Edgar Wright returns to full-on action mode with a high-octane new adaptation of Stephen King’s dystopian satirical novel
  • Previously adapted into a starring vehicle for Arnold Schwarzenegger, this version is much closer to the original book and follows much of the darker and more grounded elements down to the letter
  • Filling the Schwarzenegger role this time is Glen Powell, whose movie star charisma leads a sparkling ensemble cast that includes Josh Brolin, Colman Domingo, and even Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World star Michael Cera
  • Speaking of Scott Pilgrim, Wright also reunites with that film’s screenwriter Michael Bacall, for a film that contains many of that film’s quirky attributes albeit in a less heightened sense of reality
  • It’s a rip-roaring thrill ride that will give audiences the energy they need to maybe even go on a far less murderous run themselves!

The Running Man is showing in cinemas from Friday 14 November 2025

What’s Showing in Cinemas This Week?

Now You See Me: Now You Don’t (dir. Ruben Fleischer)

CAST: Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher, Morgan Freeman, Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa, Ariana Greenblatt, Rosamund Pike

CREW: Ruben Fleischer (director), Seth Grahame-Smith, Michael Lesslie, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (writers), Bobby Cohen and Alex Kurtzman (producers), Brian Tyler (composer), George Richmond (cinematographer), Stacey Schroeder (editor)

PLOT: A group of estranged magicians known as the Four Horsemen – Danny Atlas (Eisenberg), Merritt McKinney (Harrelson), Jack Wilder (Franco) and Henley Reeves (Fisher) – reunite to recruit skilled young illusionists Charlie (Smith), Bosco (Sessa) and June (Greenblatt) for a high-stakes heist involving a rare diamond from the clutches of Veronika Vanderberg (Pike), the head of a criminal family syndicate…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • The magic-themed heist franchise is back with an all-new globe-trotting adventure that once again combines impressive illusions with Ocean’s Eleven-style slickness
  • The four original stars from the 2013 original usher in a new generation of magicians including The Holdovers breakout Dominic Sessa in his first major film since the awards favourite
  • Director Ruben Flescher steps in for previous filmmakers Louis Leterrier and Jon M. Chu to up the stakes with plenty of amazingly mind-bending sequences
  • Audiences can also enjoy the genuine camaraderie amongst the ensemble cast, which also includes screen veterans Morgan Freeman and Rosamund Pike in allied and villainous roles respectively
  • Like the first two films, it offers plenty of big-screen entertainment that may encourage you to seek out some of the world’s greatest (and hopefully less criminal) illusionists and their own special skills

Now You See Me: Now You Don’t is showing in cinemas from Friday 14 November 2025

Keeper (dir. Osgood Perkins)

CAST: Tatiana Maslany, Rossif Sutherland, Claire Friesen, Christin Park, Tess Degenstein, Erin Boyes, Birkett Turton, Eden Weiss, Gina Vultaggio, Erin Tipple, Evelyn Burke, Ella Wejr, Glen Gordon, Logan Pierce

CREW: Osgood Perkins (director), Nick Lepard (writer), Chris Ferguson and Jesse Savath (producers), Edo Van Breemen (composer), Jeremy Cox (cinematographer), Graham Fortin and Greg Ng (editors)

PLOT: Liz (Maslany) and Malcom (Sutherland) take a romantic trip to a secluded cabin, where they encounter a terrifying evil…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • Osgood Perkins continues to assert himself as a leading voice in modern horror with a chilling and mysterious new cinematic nightmare
  • The director shot the entire film in secret whilst production on The Monkey (released earlier this year) was paused during the 2023 Hollywood union strikes
  • Perkins uses some of the same cast and crew members from the then-halted production of The Monkey, including co-star Tatiana Maslany who delivers an unnerving performance opposite Rossif Sutherland
  • It’s hard to get a gauge on what the film is actually about, which will no doubt prove to be a wise decision that makes the surprises in this movie all the more shocking
  • Billed as an exceptionally dark trip, this should be a chilling horror experience from a filmmaker that knows the genre inside and out

Keeper is showing in cinemas from Friday 14 November 2025

Nuremberg (dir. James Vanderbilt)

CAST: Rami Malek, Russell Crowe, Leo Woodall, John Slattery, Mark O’Brien, Colin Hanks, Wrenn Schmidt, Lydia Peckham, Michael Shannon, Richard E. Grant, Lotte Verbeek, Andreas Pietschmann, Steven Pacey, Paul Antony-Barber, Jeremy Wheeler, Wolfgang Cerny, Dan Cade, Donald Sage Mackay, Dieter Riesle, Wayne Brett, Mesterházy Gyula, Sam Newman, Philippe Jaq, Tom Keune, Blake Kubena, Michael Sheldon, Fleur Bremmer

CREW: James Vanderbilt (director, writer, producer), Bradley J. Fischer, George Freeman, Cherilyn Hawrysh, István Major, Richard Saperstein, William Sherak, Frank Smith and Benjamin Tappan (producers), Brian Tyler (composer), Dariusz Wolski (cinematographer), Tom Eagles (editor)

PLOT: After the end of the Second World War, US Army psychiatrist Douglas Kelley (Malek) is recruited to interview and assess numerous surviving Nazis to determine if they are fit to stand trial for their war crimes, and ends up in a psychological tug-of-war with Hermann Göring (Crowe), a high-ranking Nazi officer considered to be Hitler’s right-hand man…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • The tender drama that went on behind-the-scenes at the historic Nuremberg trials is brought to life in a sprawling war epic by filmmaker James Vanderbilt
  • Coming ten years after his directorial debut Truth, Vanderbilt applies a stern and eerily timely vision to original author Jack El-Hai’s investigation into what makes people willingly do the worst things imaginable
  • The ensemble cast is stacked with top-tier talent including Oscar-winners Rami Malek and Russell Crowe, character actors like Michael Shannon and Richard E. Grant, and rising stars such as Leo Woodall
  • Following its world premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, the film received a four-minute standing ovation, the longest in the festival’s history
  • It’s an important look at one of the most significant trials in human history, and a captivating thriller that puts you in an inescapable state of ponderous thought

Nuremberg is showing in cinemas from Friday 14 November 2025

Christmas Karma (dir. Gurinder Chadha)

CAST: Kunal Nayyar, Leo Suter, Charithra Chandran, Pixie Lott, Danny Dyer, Boy George, Hugh Bonneville, Billy Porter, Eva Longoria, Ali Asghar Shah, Bilal Hasna, Nitin Ganatra, Allan Corduner, Rufus Jones, Tracy-Ann Oberman, Eve Jihan Cooper

CREW: Gurinder Chadha (director, writer, producer), Amory Leader, Celine Rattray and Trudie Styler (producers), Gary Barlow, Shaznay Lewis and Nitin Sawhney (composers), Niels Reedtz Johansen (cinematographer), Josh Cunliffe (editor)

PLOT: In modern-day London, Eshaan Sood (Nayyar) is a cold-hearted businessman who, on Christmas Eve, is visited by three spirits who seek to show him the error of his ways…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • Filmmaker Gurinder Chadha revitalises the timeless Charles Dickens story of A Christmas Carol in ways that make it feel fresh once more
  • The Bend It Like Beckham director updates the familiar narrative with a modern multicultural twist, as well as a great helping of new songs (yes, it’s a musical!) covering a wide variety of genres
  • Kunal Nayyar, of The Big Bang Theory, leads with a fresh take on the iconic Scrooge, and is backed up by memorable supporting turns by the likes of Eva Longoria, Hugh Bonneville, Billy Porter and even Boy George!
  • Even if you know the story like the back of your hand, Chadha still manages to make the journey satisfying and enjoyable for viewers of all ages
  • Unlike previous Christmas Carol adaptations, this one is trying to do something different with the source material, and like Scrooged and Spirited before it, Christmas Karma could truly stand out because of it!

Christmas Karma is showing in cinemas from Friday 14 November 2025

Alpha (dir. Julia Ducournau)

CAST: Tahar Rahim, Golshifteh Farahani, Mélissa Boros, Emma Mackey, Finnegan Oldfield, Louai El Amrousy, Marc Riso, Jean-Charles Clichet, Jean-Charles Clichet, François Rollin, Driver, Ambrine Trigo Ouaked

CREW: Julia Ducournau (director, writer), Eric Altmayer, Nicolas Altmayer, Arnaud Chautard and Jean-Rachid (producers), Jim Williams (composer), Ruben Impens (cinematographer), Jean-Christophe Bouzy (editor)

PLOT: In a small French town, thirteen-year-old Alpha (Boros) comes home from a party one night with a mysterious tattoo on her arm, causing her single mother (Farahani) to worry that it may be a sign that her daughter is infected with a strange new disease that slowly turns its carriers into marble…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • Genre filmmaker Julia Ducournau’s third feature is her most ambitious yet – and that’s saying something, given that her previous film featured someone engaging in sexual relations with a car!
  • Unlike her cannibalistic debut Raw or even her Palme D’Or winning follow-up Titane (which features aforementioned car-banging), Ducournau opts for a slightly more grounded narrative with fierce elements of her trademark brand of body horror
  • The unusual plot has been likened to an allegory for the HIV/AIDS crisis, as well as the discrimination and paranoia that unfortunately came with it
  • Young actor Mélissa Boros delivers a fiercely honest turn as the young teen caught in the allegorical mess, and holds her own opposite more experienced actors like Tahar Rahim and Emma Mackey
  • It proves how, even when operating with comparatively lighter material, Ducournau can craft a compelling and thought-provoking narrative within the realms of heavy genre

Alpha is showing in cinemas from Friday 14 November 2025

Park Avenue (dir. Gaby Dellal)

CAST: Fiona Shaw, Katherine Waterston, Chaske Spencer, Frederick Weller, Mary Beth Peil, Skye P. Marshall, Gabriella Baldacchino, Robert Lenzi, Franklin Ojeda Smith, Didi Conn, Phylicia Rashad, Timothy Hutton

CREW: Gaby Dellal (director, writer), Tina Alexis Allen (writer), Diana Phillips (producer), Stephen Warbeck (composer), David Johnson (cinematographer), Michelle Botticelli (editor)

PLOT: After fleeing her suffocating life as a rancher, Charlotte (Waterston) reluctantly returns to the affluent New York apartment of her estranged mother Kit (Shaw), who is hiding a devastating secret from her daughter…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • Acclaimed British filmmaker Gaby Dellal returns after a 10-year filmmaking absence with a witty and tender drama about two lost souls bonded by more than blood
  • Fiona Shaw and Katherine Waterston are both on top form as the respective mother and daughter who must come to terms with their volatile relationship in order to properly reunite
  • The swanky location of the title suggests plenty of elegant scenes set around the famously upmarket New York street
  • You may also shed some tears as particular revelations force the two leads to confront their mortality and make amends before tragedy strikes
  • With its complex writing and soulful performances, this is a nice little gem that you’ll remember for a good long while after

Park Avenue is showing in cinemas from Friday 14 November 2025

Harley Flanagan: Wired for Chaos (dir. Rex Miller)

CAST: Harley Flanagan

CREW: Rex Miller (director, producer, cinematographer), Elisabeth Haviland James (producer, editor) Laura Lee Flanagan and (producers), David Majzlin (composer), Mikkel Elbech (cinematographer, editor), Daniel Fong, Israel Perez-Hortal and Jethro Waters (cinematographers), Sandrine Isambert (editor)

PLOT: The life and career of punk rock musician Harley Flanagan, who at the age of thirteen began a transformative journey to notoriety…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • Punk icon Harley Flanagan is the subject of filmmaker Rex Miller’s warts-and-all biographical documentary about his unusual rise to stardom
  • The film covers his tumultuous Bronx upbringing as well as his early introduction to his musical talents, and also some of the darker moments of his later career
  • Rare archival footage and interviews with celebrity friends and admirers such as Ice-T and Flea create a much broader picture of who the central figure truly is
  • Lovers of punk music will greatly enjoy the truly rebellious lifestyle that Flanagan carved out for himself, while more general audiences can immerse themselves into the surprisingly tender portrayal of a deeply complex musician
  • Needless to say, it’s a must-watch for long-time fans of Flanagan, whose punk spirit continues to inspire and entertain to this day

Harley Flanagan: Wired for Chaos is showing in cinemas from Friday 14 November 2025

Predators (dir. David Osit)

CAST: Chris Hansen, Dani Jayden, David Osit, Shawn Rech

CREW: David Osit (director, producer, cinematographer, editor), J. Gonçalves and Kellen Quinn (producers), Tim Hecker (composer), Nicolás Nørgaard Staffolani (editor)

PLOT: A look at the rise and fall of popular TV show To Catch a Predator, in which host Chris Hansen lured unsuspecting paedophiles into a trap and interviewed them before their arrest…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • A very different Predator movie to last week’s Predator: Badlands, this is in fact an eye-opening documentary about the notorious TV show that turned the entrapment of would-be child molesters into captivating screen entertainment
  • Filmmaker David Osit dives deep into the origins and initial success of the show, as well as that of host Chris Hansen whose own profile skyrocketed due to the programme’s popularity
  • The former frontman gives an exclusive interview for the film that tackles a wide variety of topics surrounding To Catch a Predator, including the tragic way that it all fell apart
  • Osit pays particular attention to the perverse audience desire to watch and absorb such chilling crimes, and how even after its end the show has found new prominence in online forums and wider pop culture
  • It’s a fascinating film about the exploitation of true crime and the depths viewers will go to in order to witness some of the most disturbing criminal acts in existence

Predators is showing in cinemas from Friday 14 November 2025

Valley of the Shadow of Death (dirs. Jeffrey Lam Sen and Antonio Tam)

CAST: Anthony Chau-Sang Wong, Louisa So, George Au, Sheena Chan, Summer Chan, Timothy Tsz-Hin Choi, Wing Mo

CREW: Antonio Tam (director, writer), Jeffrey Lam Sen (director), Jacqueline Liu (producer), Yusuke Hatano (composer), Shek-Keung Wong (cinematographer), J. Him Lee (editor)

PLOT: Pastor Leung (Wong), who constantly preaches about God’s forgiveness, finds himself morally conflicted when his church takes in Ah Lok (Au), the young man who murdered his daughter…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • This ponderous Cantonese drama explores the limits of forgiveness that people are reluctant to reach, especially under religious circumstances
  • Legendary Hong Kong actor Anthony Chau-Sang Wong is remarkable as the conflicted priest whose personal dilemma fuels much of the ensuing events
  • Directing duo Jeffrey Lam Sen and Antonio Tam pack plenty of complex humanity into a tight runtime that explores as much as it needs to about its characters and situations
  • It is a strikingly made piece, featuring atmospheric cinematography that transforms the most intimate of spaces into a visually compelling atmosphere
  • With heavy themes of forgiveness and retribution, the film asks plenty of difficult questions and delivers answers that are equally as uncomfortable

Valley of the Shadow of Death is showing in cinemas from Friday 14 November 2025

What’s Showing At Home This Week?

In Your Dreams (dir. Alex Woo)

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • Enter a fantastical world we all enter every single night in a highly imaginative new animated film that will please just about everybody
  • Alex Woo, a former Pixar story artist who went on to found independent animation studio Kuku Studios, makes his feature directorial debut with a film that contains laughter, sadness, silliness and plenty of other emotions
  • The prolific voice cast includes Simu Liu, Cristin Milioti and Craig Robinson who are all gifted with characters who prove to be memorable beyond who’s voicing them
  • The iconic Paul Reubens was originally set to voice arguably the film’s most important character, that of the fabled Sandman, but his death in 2023 paved the way for Omid Djalili to fill in for the departed actor
  • With plenty of dazzling absurdist visuals set to stunning animation, it’s yet another winner for Netflix after they reached cultural phenomenon status earlier this year with KPop Demon Hunters

In Your Dreams is streaming exclusively on Netflix from Friday 14 November 2025

A Merry Little Ex-Mas (dir. Steve Carr)

CAST: Alicia Silverstone, Oliver Hudson, Jameela Jamil, Pierson Fodé, Linda Kash, Melissa Joan Hart, Emily Hall, Timothy Innes

CREW: Steve Carr (director), Holly Hester (writer), Melissa Joan Hart and Paula Hart (producers), Jeff Cardoni (composer), Adam Santelli (cinematographer), Craig Herring (editor)

PLOT: Kate (Silverstone), a recent divorcee, hopes to pull off one last family Christmas before selling her home, but the sudden arrival of her ex-husband Everett (Hudson) and his new girlfriend Tess (Jamil) throws her plans out the window…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • It wouldn’t be Christmas in the modern age without an all-new Netflix movie to cuddle up to, and this delightfully festive romantic-comedy should provide plenty of seasonal warmth
  • Alicia Silverstone comfortably leads a cast that also includes Good Place star Jameela Jamil and Pierson Fodé, of the recent Netflix rom-com The Wrong Paris
  • Fellow 90s teen idol Melissa Joan Hart (any Sabrina the Teenage Witch fans in the house?) not only has a small supporting role but also produces the film with her mother Paula Hart
  • The film is decked with Christmas imagery left and right, from heavily decorated trees to constant white snow, all of which should help you get in the festive spirit
  • It makes a fine addition to the streamer’s increasingly long line of Christmas comfort watches, which have historically included the likes of The Princess Switch, Holidate and last year’s Hot Frosty

A Merry Little Ex-Mas is streaming exclusively on Netflix from Wednesday 12 November 2025

Playdate (dir. Luke Greenfield)

CAST: Kevin James, Alan Ritchson, Sarah Chalke, Alan Tudyk, Stephen Root, Isla Fisher, Benjamin Pajak, Banks Pierce

CREW: Luke Greenfield (director, producer), Neil Goldman (writer), Jason Benoit, Mark Fasano, Jeffrey Greenstein and Sean Patrick O’Reilly (producers), Jeff Cardoni (composer), Darran Tiernan (cinematographer), Joe Mitacek (editor)

PLOT: Brian (James), a suburban father, meets fellow stay-at-home dad Jeff (Ritchson) after their sons become friends, but a spontaneous playdate turns into a fight for survival as Jeff is revealed to be hiding a dark past…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • Kevin James and Alan Ritchson form an unlikely action duo in a no-holes-barred new comedy that packs a surprising punch
  • The Reacher star taps into his largely unexplored comedic side opposite the King of Queens and Happy Madison legend that is Kevin James
  • Luke Greenfield, best known for directing comedies like The Girl Next Door and Let’s Be Cops, brings a high-octane energy to action sequences that utilise the shared magnetism of its stars
  • It should provide plenty of entertainment for viewers who are craving for fresh new dynamics amidst some heavy fight and chase choreography
  • Of course, it packs as many laughs as it does punches, balancing humour and brawn equally to make for an unforgettable viewing experience

Playdate is streaming exclusively on Prime Video from Wednesday 12 November 2025

Belén (dir. Dolores Fonzi)

CAST: Dolores Fonzi, Camila Pláate, Laura Paredes, Julieta Cardinali, Sergio Prina, Luis Machín, César Troncoso, Lili Juárez, Ruth Pláate

CREW: Dolores Fonzi (director, writer), Nicolás Britos, Laura Paredes and Agustina San Martín (writers), Leticia Cristi and Matías Mosteirín (producers), Javier Julia (cinematographer), Andrés Pepe Estrada (editor)

PLOT: In Argentina, attorney Soledad Deza (Fonzi) takes on the case of Belén (Pláate), a woman who was unfairly imprisoned for infanticide after a miscarriage led to her having an abortion…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • A milestone case in Argentinian law is dramatised in a powerful drama that explores the systemic failure to recognise women’s reproductive health
  • Filmmaker Dolores Fonzi takes heavy inspiration from the real-life 2014 case that sparked a nationwide and eventually global movement protesting the draconian system that discriminates against women
  • Fonzi also stars as Soledad Deza, the lawyer who put her career at risk to take on the conservative forces who condemned the titular victim, played by newcomer Camila Pláate, to unjust conditions
  • The film has been entered as Argentina’s official entry for this year’s International Feature Film Oscar, where it will face stiff competition from the likes of Sentimental Value, It Was Just an Accident and No Other Choice
  • It’s a damning and undeniably powerful look at a case that helped bring about change to the way that society as a whole treats women and their reproductive rights

Belén is streaming exclusively on Prime Video from Friday 14 November 2025

A Very Jonas Christmas Movie (dir. Jessica Yu)

CAST: Joe Jonas, Kevin Jonas, Nick Jonas, Chloe Bennet, Billie Lourd, Laverne Cox, KJ Apa, Andrew Barth Feldman, Andrea Martin, Kenny G, Justin Tranter, Randall Park, Jesse Tyler Ferguson

PLOT: After finishing their world tour in London, the Jonas Brothers – Joe, Kevin and Nick (as themselves) – must make a perilous trip home in time to spend Christmas with their respective families…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • The Jonas Brothers return to their Disney roots for an original festive adventure that combines Christmas cheer with good old-fashioned road trip hijinks
  • Joe, Kevin and Nick play versions of themselves that are extremely game for the kind of wildly comedic set-pieces that helped earn them international admiration
  • Numerous other well-known faces pop up to provide help or maybe even no help, including Chloe Bennet, Laverne Cox, and Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson
  • The film also commemorates the 20th anniversary of the brothers’ debut as a pop band (has it really been that long? God, I feel so old…)
  • Longtime fans of all things Jonas will find this to be a pleasant reminder of their on-screen charm as well as a fun new Christmas classic

PLOT: After his teenage daughter is mistakenly kidnapped by Gus Soltic (Gorman), a psychopath on a mission to take down the real estate developers who destroyed his childhood neighbourhood, former New York cop Sean Boyd (Brolin) embarks on a dangerous mission to rescue her…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • The early 80s crime thriller makes a dazzling return with a 4K glow-up, just in time for its 45th anniversary
  • Based on William P. McGivern’s novel, the film features a fierce lead turn by James Brolin as well as a terrifying villainous performance by an unhinged Cliff Gorman
  • The film underwent some production difficulties, such as original director Sidney J. Furie quitting the film after only a third of it was shot, and although it came up far short of its $6.5 million budget it has become a significant cult classic
  • Having not been made widely available since the VHS era, its reemergence in both cinemas and a special 4K UHD home release is a significant step in allowing more viewers to experience its gritty thrills
  • For those looking for a good deep-cut when it comes to 70s/80s-era crime thrillers, this is a newly unearthed treasure that you may well be inclined to add to your collection

Night of the Juggler is showing in cinemas from Friday 14 November 2025
