• It is the debut feature of writer-director Anuparna Roy, whose gentle and humanist touch allows the viewer to understand and empathise with its two complex lead characters
• Actors Naaz Shaikh and Sumi Baghel are deeply compelling as two very different women bonded by more than just their living space
• The film made its world premiere in the Orizzonti (Horizons) section at last year’s Venice Film Festival, where Roy was awarded the Best Director prize (the first Indian filmmaker to do so)
• Viewers will be entranced by its lyrical and heartfelt storytelling that announces Roy as a serious international talent to watch out for

• It’s a fresh take on a familiar story, as director Jazz Bhalla (who also provided the story) depicts the harsh realities of working-class life in an honest and unfiltered fashion
• Bhalla also assembles an all-Asian cast to keep the narrative firmly focused, with lead actor Amar Chaggar proving to be an exceptional screen talent who carries the film with a striking lived-in manner
• Some tense moments of violence reinforce the realistic atmosphere in which this particular story takes place
• Like the Kidulthood trilogy, Blue Story and My Brother the Devil before it, Never Had a Chance is another worthy entry in the sub-category of British cinema focused on disenfranchised young people

• Sandler’s daughter Sunny shines in the lead role, which given that she was more than able to hold her own as the star of You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah shouldn’t come as that big of a shock!
• It is the brainchild of writer-director Julia Hart and writer-producer Jordan Horowitz, the power couple who previously created fellow high school-set musical Stargirl as well as the Rachel Brosnahan-fronted thriller I’m Your Woman
• Production coincided with the Sandler-produced teen comedy Roommates, which was released earlier this year with Sandler’s other daughter Sadie in the lead role
• With its heavy themes and drama-infused musical numbers, it’s perhaps the biggest test yet for Sandler’s Happy Madison as it further embraces its newfound maturity

• It was directed by Aardman co-founder Peter Lord, who adapted Gideon Defoe’s book series into a witty and visually inventive family comedy with plenty of the studio’s signature charm
• Hugh Grant delivers a hilarious vocal performance as the aloof Pirate Captain, while there are plenty of other memorable turns by David Tennant, Imelda Staunton, Salma Hayek and many others
• Upon release, the film gained strong critical reviews, performed fairly well at the box office, and even earned an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature
• It’s one of Aardman’s most underappreciated movies, with characters who rank among some of the studio’s more memorable roster
