PLOT: As a boy, Prince Adam (Galitzine) was forced to flee his native land of Eternia after it is invaded by the evil warlock Skeletor (Leto), but after fifteen years of growing up on Earth, Adam reunites with his closest allies Teela (Mendes) and General Duncan (Elba) to return home, where he learns to embrace his true destiny as the powerful warrior known as He-Man…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • The mythical Mattel franchise, which has spawned everything from toys to comics to beloved cartoon series, is revitalised on the big screen nearly forty years after the Dolph Lundgren-led version
  • This one remains more faithful to the original mythos, thanks to the passion and heart of director Travis Knight, the founder of stop-motion animation studio Laika and previously the director of Bumblebee
  • Nicholas Galitzine, of Bottoms and Red, White & Royal Blue fame, takes on the muscular role of He-Man himself, with fellow stars Idris Elba as the gadget-laden Man-At-Arms and Jared Leto as the villainous Skeletor
  • Some top-notch visual effects, as well as a triumphant score by Daniel Pemberton, bring the world of Eternia to exciting and crowd-pleasing life
  • It could very well be the beginning of a newly revitalised franchise, one that will inspire new generations to get invested in He-Man and his many heroic adventures

Masters of the Universe is showing in cinemas from Wednesday 3 June 2026

What’s Showing in Cinemas This Week?

Scary Movie (dir. Michael Tiddes)

Kim Wayans, Benny Zielke, Cameron Scott Roberts, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, Dave Sheridan, Heidi Gardner, Lochlyn Munro, Olivia Rose Keegan, Ruby Snowber, Savannah Lee Nassif, Sydney Park, Kenan Thompson, Jon Abrahams

CREW: Michael Tiddes (director), Rick Alvarez, Craig Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans (writers, producers), Neal H. Moritz (producer), Haim Mazar (composer), Terry Stacey (cinematographer), Jonathan Schwartz (editor)

PLOT: Cindy Campbell (Faris) reunites with her former friends Brenda (Hall), Shorty (M. Wayans and Ray (S. Watans) when a new masked killer returns to cause more mayhem…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • The original creators of the 2000 spoof phenomenon Scary Movie are back to send-up a whole bunch of new horror titles from the past quarter-century
  • Marlon Wayans, along with brothers Shawn, Craig and Keenen Ivory (the latter also being the director of the first two films in the series), all return as writers and producers for the first time since 2001’s Scary Movie 2
  • Marlon and Shawn also reprise their iconic roles as Shorty and Ray, while series regulars Anna Faris and Regina Hall are on board as the lovable airhead duo of Cindy and Brenda
  • Of course, there are tons of movies and even TV shows getting the parody treatment, from the recent Scream movies to Sinners to The Substance to Terrifier and so much more!
  • With its promise of big unfiltered laughs to go along with its edgy humour, it’ll be joyous to see it all come from those who introduced the world to this zany franchise in the first place

Scary Movie is showing in cinemas from Friday 5 June 2026

Erupcja (dir. Pete Ohs)

CAST: Charli XCX, Lena Góra, Will Madden, Jeremy O’Harris, Agata Trzebuchowska

CREW: Pete Ohs (director, writer, producer, cinematographer, editor), Jeremy O’Harris and Charli XCX (writers, producers) Lena Góra and Will Madden (writers), Luke Arreguin and Josh Godfrey (producers), Isabella Summers and Charles Watson (composers)

PLOT: Whilst visiting Warsaw with her boyfriend Rob (Madden), Bethany (XCX) has a reunion with her childhood friend Nel (Góra), only for things to derail when a nearby volcano erupts…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • After impressing as a fictional version of herself in The Moment, Charli XCX makes her proper acting debut in filmmaker Pete Ohs’s quirky mumblecore romantic-comedy
  • The pop diva is also a credited writer and producer alongside Ohs and fellow co-stars Lena Góra, Will Madden and Jeremy O’Harris, all having contributed to the improv-heavy narrative
  • It is inspired by Ohs’s own experiences of moving to the Polish city in late 2023, while the project itself reportedly came from a conversation shared between him and Charli during their first meeting
  • Since the title translates to “eruption” in Polish, expect the unlikely disaster movie sub-plot to bring about some explosive material, no matter how big or small
  • Charli XCX has clearly caught the acting bug between this, The Moment and 100 Nights of Hero, and this could well be the beginning of her transition into A-list Hollywood stardom

Erupcja is showing in cinemas from Friday 5 June 2026

Savage House (dir. Peter Glanz)

CAST: Richard E. Grant, Claire Foy, Sebastian Armesto, Roger Ashton-Griffiths, Kíla Lord Cassidy, Dominic Charman, Michael Culkin, Jack Farthing, Bel Powley, Richard McCabe, Vicki Pepperdine, Pip Torrens, Tony Way, Nicholas Woodeson, Miles Jupp, Robert Bathurst

CREW: Peter Glanz (director, writer, producer, editor), Mark Hopkins, Dylan Maranda, Oliver Roskill and Phillip Thomas (producers), Adriano Goldman (cinematographer)

PLOT: In 18th century England, during the midst of a pox outbreak and a Jacobite uprising, affluent couple Sir Chauncey (Grant) and Lady Savage (Foy) seek to improve their social standing with disastrous results…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • The society in this darkly hilarious period piece is anything but polite, which means nothing but cinematic goodness for viewers everywhere
  • Oscar-nominee Richard E. Grant and Emmy-winner Claire Foy are having a blast playing off each other as the vacuous couple at its centre
  • It’s the second directorial feature for filmmaker Peter Glanz, who previously made 2014’s The Longest Week and more recently nabbed a screenwriting credit on Captain America: Brave New World
  • There are some truly vulgar and raunchy sequences that push the boundaries of those going in expecting just another run-of-the-mill costume drama
  • With its dry wit and grotesque elegance, it’s very much the antithesis of franchises like Downton Abbey which celebrate the glitz and glamour of historic wealth

Savage House is showing in cinemas from Friday 5 June 2026

MadFabulous (dir. Celyn Jones)

CAST: Callum Scott Howells, Rupert Everett, Ruby Stokes, Siobhán McSweeney, Louis Hynes, Louise Brealey, Tom Rhys Harries, Paul Rhys, Guillaume Gallienne, Steve Speirs, Kevin Eldon, Ian Puleston-Davies, Roger Evans, Lisa Jên Brown

CREW: Celyn Jones (director), Lisa Baker (writer), Nadia Jaynes and Sean Marley (producers), Dan Baboulene (composer), Laurie Rose (cinematographer), Kevin Jones (editor)

PLOT: In North Wales during the late 19th century, flamboyant aristocrat Henry Paget (Howells) arrives to claim his inheritance, and sets out to prove himself as the new Marquess amid a shocked and scheming society…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • If Savage House is a bit too grim for your period piece fix, then this delightful costume comedy from director Celyn Jones should brighten things up a bit!
  • BAFTA-winner Callum Scott Howells takes on the real-life role of affluent eccentric Henry Paget, 5th Marquess of Anglesey, who defied societal expectations with his outgoing mannerisms
  • The supporting cast is stacked with British acting thespians, including Rupert Everett, Ruby Stokes, Paul Rhys and Louise Brealey (who recently starred opposite director Jones in Chuck Chuck Baby)
  • Welsh history is very prominent in the film, with it being shot in various historic locations such as Anglesey itself, while Lisa Baker’s script touches upon queer identity at a time when such a thing was unheard of
  • It’s a winning depiction of an unlikely aristocrat who, more than a century after his death, is seen as a pioneer figure in queer history

MadFabulous is showing in cinemas from Friday 5 June 2026

Köln 75 (dir. Ido Fluk)

CAST: Mala Emde, John Magaro, Michael Chernus, Alexander Scheer, Ulrich Tukur, Jördis Triebel, Susanne Wolff

CREW: Ido Fluk (director, writer), Sol Bondy and Fred Burle (producers), Hubert Walkowski (composer), Jens Harant (cinematographer), Anja Siemens (editor)

PLOT: In 1975 West Germany, teenage music patron Vera Brandes (Emde) defies her conservative family by organising an impromptu concert for American jazz pianist Keith Jarrett (Magaro)…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • The untold story behind one of the 20th century’s most important moments in music culture is given a lively and fiercely engaging filmic platform
  • Writer-director Ido Fluk shows in extravagant detail how the Keith Jarrett performance, which became the record-breaking jazz album The Köln Concert, almost never happened as well as the unlikely hurdles that were eventually overcome
  • German actor Mala Emde is electrifying as the young woman who put the whole thing together, while Past Lives star John Magaro shines in a supporting role as Jarrett himself
  • It stages everything at such a breakneck speed that you feel out of breath long before you’ve heard a single tune of jazz music
  • The film is a music for jazz die-hards who have always wanted to see how one of the most influential jazz records in existence broke barriers and defied all expectations

Köln 75 is showing in cinemas from Friday 5 June 2026

Enzo (dir. Robin Campillo)

CAST: Eloy Pohu, Maksym Silvinskyi, Pierfrancesco Favino, Élodie Bouchez, Vladislav Holyk, Pilippe Petit, Charline Paul, Mounir Margoum

CREW: Robin Campillo (director, writer, editor), Laurent Cantet and Gilles Marchand (writers), Marie-Ange Luciani (producer), Jeanne Lapoirie (cinematographer)

PLOT: In southern France, Enzo (Pohu) is a young teenager who goes against the expectations of his wealthy family by taking on a building apprenticeship after meeting and developing a close relationship with charismatic Ukrainian bricklayer Vlad (Silvinskyi)…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • This sun-soaked coming-of-age drama offers plenty of understated adolescent wonder and wisdom
  • It’s a truly European co-production, with companies from France, Belgium and Italy all having a hand in making and financing the film
  • There’s a real spark between actors Eloy Pohu and Maksym Silvinskyi, both of whom make their screen debuts but feel as though they’ve been performing for years
  • More tragically, it was originally due to be directed by Laurent Cantet, the Palme D’Or winning filmmaker behind The Class, but after his death in 2024, co-writer Robin Campillo took over in his honour
  • For a bittersweet farewell to one of France’s most fascinating filmic storytellers, it’s an emotional experience in more ways than one

Enzo is showing in cinemas from Friday 5 June 2026

The Lonely Musketeer (dir. Nicolai Schumann)

CAST: Edward Hogg, Richard Glover, Jennifer K. Preston, Kate Barry, Holly Gordon Clark, Max Johnson, Alex Merry, Chris Kyriacou, Thomas O’Connell, William Owen, Angela Peters

CREW: Nicolai Schumann (director, writer, producer), Addy Raja and Marc Schneider (producers), Nilly Brook (composer), Bruce Jackson (cinematographer), Top Tarasin (editor)

PLOT: A man named Rupert (Hogg) wakes up to find himself mysteriously trapped in a doorless, windowless room with only his phone on hand, and he must confront his past to figure out how he ended up in this situation…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • Pray you’re not claustrophobic as you go into this gripping and suspenseful thriller that takes place almost entirely in a single room
  • Edward Hogg, previously seen in films like Jupiter Ascending and Roland Emmerich’s Anonymous, delivers a tour-de-force performance as the only actor present on-screen, with all other actors literally phoning it in
  • Some stark Kafkaesque black-and-white cinematography accentuates the growing helplessness of the main character’s situation, as well as the slow unravelling of his mind
  • It’s shown at a bunch of film festivals around the world, winning a couple of prizes at London’s Raindance, while the highly influential Sight & Sound magazine named it one of the best movies of 2024 (when it debuted on the festival circuit)
  • Audiences seeking a surreal and complex character study won’t find a more perfect fit for their oddly specific film tastes!

The Lonely Musketeer is showing in cinemas from Friday 5 June 2026

Acting (dir. Sophie Fiennes)

CAST: Grace Andrews, David Burnett, Declan Donnellan, Amber James, Orlando James, Sophie Khan Levy, Jonathan Livingstone, Nick Ormerod, Ekow Quartey, Hannah Young

CREW: Sophie Fiennes (director, producer, cinematographer, editor), Shani Hinton and Martin Rosenbaum (producers)

PLOT: In the summer of 2021, filmmaker Sophie Fiennes documents the unique rehearsal methods of theatre company Cheek by Jowl as they prepare a series of scenes and monologues from Macbeth…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • Take a peek into the world of a theatre troupe that takes their profession and their craft extremely seriously
  • Eight actors are captured by filmmaker Sophie Fiennes, with strong input from the founders of Cheek by Jowl, across a two-week intensive rehearsal period at an old mansion outside London
  • Fiennes operated as the sole camera operator, sometimes harnessing a camera to her body whilst following her subjects on their madcap journey
  • It debuted at last year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival to great acclaim, and also gained attention at the International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam
  • If you’re a theatre die-hard or have never seen a live performance in your life, it’s a fascinating insight into a deeply artful world

Acting is showing in cinemas from Friday 5 June 2026

Planet Israel (dir. Gillian Mosely)

CAST: Daniel Bar-Tal, Julia Chiatin, Avi Dabush, Lawrence Freedman, Esti Gallili-Weisstub, Israel Medad, Ayala Panievsky, Avi Shalim

CREW: Gillian Mosely (director, writer, producer), Lucy Lyon (cinematographer), Alethea Lindsay (editor)

PLOT: An exploration into why roughly 73% of Jewish Israelis have expressed support for the ongoing destruction and genocide in Gaza…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • BAFTA-winning filmmaker Gillian Mosely takes a dark and sobering look at Israel’s role in its past and current conflict with Palestine
  • A British-American Jew herself, Mosely examines the heartbreaking history of persecution toward those of her religion, and how those similar tactics have become normalised by them in the present
  • The film also explores hard-hitting themes of nationalism, generational trauma and the hijacking of media to distort the truth
  • Mosely incorporates filmed interviews, archive footage and even some striking animation to convey points that will have every viewer thinking much deeper about the complex ideologies of modern-day Israel
  • At a time when anti-Semitic violence is unfortunately on the rise, films like this are essential to better understand the wider issue and how it extends beyond mere religious persecution

Planet Israel is showing in cinemas from Friday 5 June 2026

Ghost in the Machine (dir. Valerie Veatch)

CAST: Various

CREW: Valerie Veatch (director, writer, producer, editor), Morgan Doctor (composer)

PLOT: The untold origins of artificial intelligence, and how it has rooted from the human desire for power…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • As AI becomes more and more a part of our everyday lives, this eye-opening documentary seeks to reveal the shocking place where it all began
  • Filmmaker Valerie Veatch dives into the troubling motivations of AI pioneers who sought to control the fate of mankind with their revolutionary technology
  • It shows both the enticing promise of AI and all its benefits, while also showing how deeply divided we have become in our everyday use of it, as well as how far it could all go
  • The film made waves when it debuted at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where Veatch was nominated for the NEXT Innovator Award
  • You’ll be chilled to the human bone as you see how AI has evolved into the controversial tool it has become in our present

Ghost in the Machine is showing in cinemas from Friday 5 June 2026

PLOT: Jackie Cruz (Lopez) is a powerful CEO who has introduced a strict anti-fraternisation policy for all her employees, but she begins to question her own rules when she meets her company’s new lawyer Daniel Blanchflower (Goldstein)…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein make for an exceptionally unlikely romantic couple in director Ol Parker’s tender and heartwarming new rom-com
  • Goldstein also co-wrote the screenplay with Joe Kelly, one of the creators behind Ted Lasso which he of course co-starred in
  • Lopez, continuing her partnership with Netflix after previously starring in The Mother and Atlas for the streamer, shows a fresher side of herself in a rom-com that stands out from all her other ones
  • It being a Goldstein-written movie, expect a little bit of raunch to go alongside some of its more heartfelt moments
  • Anyone who may have found their significant other through work might just relate to the office-set shenanigans in this delightful romp

Office Romance is streaming exclusively on Netflix from Friday 5 June 2026

Beast (dir. Tyler Atkins)

CAST: Russell Crowe, Daniel MacPherson, Luke Hemsworth, Mojean Aria, Kelly Gale, George Burgess, Bren Foster, Saphira Moran, Amy Shark, Herb Dean

CREW: Tyler Atkins (director), David Frigerio (writer, producer), Russell Crowe (writer), Tim O’Hair, John Schwarz and Michael Schwarz (producers), Brian Cachia (composer), Thomaz Labanca (cinematographer), Todd E. Miller (editor)

PLOT: Patton James (MacPherson), a former MMA fighter who now works as a commercial fisherman, is forced back into the ring when his brother Malon (Aria) owes some hefty debts to local thugs, but when he is given only seven weeks to train instead of the usual six months, Patton turns to his past trainer Sammy (Crowe) to help him prepare for a high-stakes match…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • This gritty and often gripping sports drama punches well above its weight, with often thrilling results
  • Not only does Oscar-winner Russell Crowe have a meaty supporting role as the trainer to Daniel MacPherson’s MMA champion, but he also contributed to the film’s screenplay
  • Crowe and MacPherson are joined on-screen by Luke “brother of Chris and Liam” Hemsworth as a wolfish manager and Bren Foster as a particularly fierce rival
  • As one would expect from such a brutish sport like MMA, there is some hefty violence once the opponents enter the ring, much of it captured during actual sports championships
  • It fits neatly alongside the many other sports movies that combine gritty realism and crowd-pleasing drama

Beast is available to rent/buy on digital platforms from Monday 1 June 2026

What’s Returning to Cinemas This Week?

Bridesmaids (dir. Paul Feig)

CAST: Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ellie Kemper, Chris O’Dowd, Jon Hamm, Jill Clayburgh, Matt Lucas, Rebel Wilson, Michael Hitchcock, Tim Heidecker, Ben Falcone, Dana Powell, Mitch Sipla, Terry Crews, Jillian Bell, Franklyn Ajaye, Matt Bennett, Greg Tuculescu, Richard Riehle

CREW: Paul Feig (director), Annue Mumolo and Kristen Wiig (writers), Judd Apatow, Barry Mendel and Clayton Townsend (producers), Michael Andrews (composer), Robert Yeoman (cinematographer), William Kerr and Mike Sale (editors)

PLOT: Annie (Wiig) is asked to be the maid of honour by her best friend Lillian (Rudolph) after she gets engaged, but after meeting her fellow bridesmaids – including the boisterous Megan (McCarthy), the overworked mother Rita (McLendon-Covey) and naïve Rita (Kemper) – she competes for the bride’s attention against the seemingly perfect Helen (Byrne)…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • Head down the aisle once more to revisit one of the most beloved comedies of the 21st century thus far for its 15th anniversary
  • Director Paul Feig’s breakout film was notable at the time for having an all-female cast, which was almost unheard of in most comedies at the time
  • It was a commercial and critical success upon release, with it remaining producer Judd Apatow’s highest-grossing film to date, and its appreciation among film and comedy lovers has only grown over time
  • In a rare moment of comedy representation, the movie even earned a couple of Oscar nominations for the script by Annie Mumolo and lead Kristen Wiig, as well as Melissa McCarthy’s breakthrough supporting role
  • With plenty of hilarious set-pieces and moments of genuine sisterhood, it’s a modern comedy classic that anyone can easily laugh along with

Bridesmaids is showing in cinemas from Friday 5 June 2026

The Misfits (dir. John Huston)

CAST: Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, Montgomery Clift, Thelma Ritter, Eli Wallach, James Barton, Kevin McCarthy, Estelle Winwood

PLOT: Shortly after relocating to Reno, Nevada after her divorce, Roslyn Tabor (Monroe) meets and forms friendships with aging cowboy Gaylord Langland (Gable), his widowed friend Guido (Wallach), her landlady Isabelle (Ritter) and rodeo star Perce (Clift)…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • As part of the BFI’s new season focused on the iconic Marilyn Monroe, her final film role is back in cinemas with an all-new 4K restoration
  • The film, released just a year before Monroe’s death, was directed by legendary filmmaker John Huston and written by prolific playwright (and Monroe’s former husband) Arthur Miller
  • It is also notable for being the final performance of Gone with the Wind star Clark Gable, who died from a heart attack shortly after filming wrapped
  • Production was famously troubled, with Monroe’s much-documented substance abuse and highly publicised split from Miller, in addition to shooting in the unbearable heat of the Nevada landscapes, contributing to some of many on-set headaches
  • Although it was a box office flop upon release, the film was and continues to be well-received by critics, with some declaring it to be one of Monroe’s finest movies

The Misfits is showing in cinemas from Friday 5 June 2026
