• Writer-director Michael Sarnoski, previously of similarly dour thrillers like Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One, delivers some intense and often violent action that showcases the brutality of the time
• Various aspects of the Robin Hood myth, including the depiction of certain supporting characters, collide with some fascinating original material, much of it anchored by Jackman’s co-star Jodie Comer

• Director David Wain – who also co-wrote the script with Ken Marino – tells a story that borrows quite a lot of narrative tissue from The Wizard of Oz, from the initial Kansas setting to certain character traits
• An ever-chipper Zoey Deutch leads an expansive ensemble cast which features Mad Men veterans Jon Hamm and John Slattery as fictionalised versions of themselves, as well as some surprise cameos from other familiar faces!
• It was shot within a fairly brief 21-day production window, with the original cut of the movie reportedly being well over two hours (thankfully it was cut down to about 90 minutes!)
• You’ll laugh, cry, and possibly even be inspired to realise your own dreams – or at the very least, think of the one famous person you could score with!

• This hugely entertaining monster movie gives hippos – the hungry, hungry kind – a chance to be the menacing predator for once
• Writer-director James Nunn (just one letter off from being another, more famous filmmaker) uses practical effects to bring the monstrous hippo and its swamp environment to life
• Among the non-hippo cast is Madison Davenport, who previously appeared in Darren Aronofsky’s Noah and From Dusk till Dawn: The Series, and former Fast & Furious villain Joaquim de Almeida
• More than a few gnarly kills are in store for a group of characters who you’re either rooting for or against, and possibly some other unsuspecting folk
• It’s a rip-roaring time that will please anyone that’s after a straightforward and knowingly goofy B-movie with a killer hippo in it

• It was innovative at the time for some groundbreaking and later Oscar-winning visual effects, which ballooned its budget to over $100 million and made it the (then) most expensive movie of all time
• Luckily, it became a huge box office sensation and a critically acclaimed audience hit, with many to this day calling it one of the greatest sequels ever made

• The beloved fourth entry in the original line of Star Trek feature spin-offs makes its own glorious voyage home to the big screen in honour of its 40th anniversary
• It was the second and last film in the franchise to be directed by the OG Spock himself Leonard Nimoy, who was given more creative freedom on this entry after previously impressing with the previous film, The Search for Spock
• The film is best remembered for its more comedic storyline, especially as the futuristic crew of the USS Enterprise find themselves taken aback by the world of the (then) present 1986
• In addition to critical and box office success, it also scored a few Oscar nominations including Best Cinematography and Best Original Score
• Star Trek fans will definitely want to experience the heartfelt silliness of this entry on the biggest screen possible, especially before things get even sillier with the Shatner-directed fifth instalment The Final Frontier

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

• The terrifying multi-storey high survival thriller returns to cinemas before the arrival of its anticipated standalone sequel next week
• Director and co-writer Scott Mann’s feature bravely forewent green-screen and filmed on-location, with the most nerve-wracking scenes being shot less than 100ft from the ground but convincingly create the illusion of being much higher!
• Actors Grace Caroline Currey and Virginia Gardner also opted to perform some of the dangerous stunts themselves, though the most notable stunt was performed in post-production by AI software which created deepfakes that artificially redubbed swear words to boost its universal appeal
• While the movie was a modest hit at the box office and with critics, it exploded in popularity when it began streaming on Netflix, which led to next week’s sequel being greenlit
• Before you scale even greater heights in Fall 2 – which, if we weren’t clear enough, arrives next week – make sure you re-experience the thriller that started it all!
