This Week’s Movie Menu (15 – 21 July 2024)

Hold on to whatever you can before you’re swept up into a whole new hurricane of film releases, led by a gripping environmental action-thriller, and subsequently followed by (among others) a geriatric action flick, a family-friendly spy caper, and the return of a 20th century simpleton…

Movie of the Week

Twisters (2024, dir. Lee Isaac Chung)

CAST: Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Maura Tierney, Sasha Lane, Harry Hadden-Paton, David Corenswet, Daryl McCormack, Tunde Adebimpe, Katy O’Brian, Nik Dodani, Kiernan Shipka, Paul Scheer

Kate soon encounters charming social-media superstar Tyler Owens (Powell), known for his reckless ventures with his own team of fellow storm chasers. When a terrifying series of multiple storm systems starts sweeping over central Oklahoma, Kate and Tyler must join forces to survive their deadly path…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • The 1997 box office smash hit Twister receives a standalone sequel that updates the dangerous practise of storm chasing amidst a deadlier set of environmental disasters

  • Continuing the original film’s groundbreaking visual effects, there is some spectacular imagery that creates some genuinely terrifying and intense sequences
  • It’s an exciting and crowd-pleasing blockbuster that provides some meaningful escapism while also providing some mindful commentary on our current environmental conditions
