      Movie of the Week

      The Bride! (dir. Maggie Gyllenhaal)

CAST: Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, Jake Gyllenhaal, Penélope Cruz, Julianne Hough, John Magaro, Jeannie Berlin, Linda Emond, Louis Cancelmi, Matthew Maher, Zlatko Burić

CREW: Maggie Gyllenhaal (director, writer, producer), Osnat Handelsman-Keren, Talia Kleinhendler and Emma Tillinger Koskoff (producers), Hildur Guðnadóttir (composer), Lawrence Sher (composer), Dylan Tichenor (editor)

PLOT: In 1930s Chicago, Frankenstein’s Monster (Bale) approaches Dr. Euphronious (Bening) to create a companion for him, and with the body of a murdered woman (Buckley) she brings her back to life as his Bride…

      FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

      • For her second film as writer-director, Maggie Gyllenhaal creates a brand-new vision based on the monster cult classic Bride of Frankenstein
      • Gyllenhaal’s The Lost Daughter star Jessie Buckley stars as the titular Bride, and shares unhinged chemistry with Christian Bale as her undead other half
      • The rest of the starry cast includes Penélope Cruz, Annette Bening, Gyllenhaal’s spouse Peter Sarsgaard and even her own brother, a certain Jake Gyllenhaal
      • Its unique setting of 30s Chicago offers plenty of classic gangster vibes to go along with the gorgeously gothic aesthetic
      • With its central concept, not to mention the inclusion of composer Hildur Guðnadóttir and cinematographer Lawrence Sher, this could well be the Joker sequel that we were all originally hoping for!

The Bride! is showing in cinemas from Friday 6 March 2026

What’s Showing in Cinemas This Week?

      Hoppers (dir. Daniel Chong)

CAST: Piper Curda, Bobby Moynihan, Jon Hamm, Kathy Najimy, Dave Franco, Eduardo Franco, Aparna Nancherla, Tom Law, Sam Richardson, Melissa Villaseñor, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Steve Purcell, Ego Nwodim, Nichole Sakura, Meryl Streep, Karen Huie, Vanessa Bayer, Demetri Martin

CREW: Daniel Chong (director, writer), Jesse Andrews (writer), Nicole Paradis Grindle (producer), Mark Mothersbaugh (composer), Jeremy Lasky and Ian Megibben (cinematographers), Axel Geddes (editor)

PLOT: Mabel Tanaka (Curda), a 19-year-old animal lover, learns of a radical new scientific experiment that allows users to transfer human minds into lifelike robotic animal bodies, but after using the technology to embody a robotic beaver and thwart a plot to destroy a local animal habitat, she ends up causing even more chaos…

      FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

      • Pixar’s biggest creative swing yet sees the legendary animation studio embrace full-on zany comedy with a hilarious sci-fi twist
      • The concept comes from the mind of Daniel Chong, best known as the creator of Cartoon Network’s BAFTA-winning animated series We Bare Bears
      • There are many colourful characters across the human and animal kingdoms, as voiced by grade-A talent such as Jon Hamm, Dave Franco and screen legend Meryl Streep
      • Kids and adults alike will be tickled senselessly by the silly animal antics, the ludicrous plot, and the fast-paced comedy set to some energetic animation
      • It might not initially appear to be among Pixar’s most sophisticated entries, but as a fun aside before the release of Toy Story 5 later this year, this will more than do!

Hoppers is showing in cinemas from Friday 6 March 2026

      Mother’s Pride (dir. Nick Moorcroft)

CAST: Jonno Davies, Martin Clunes, James Buckley, Gabriella Wilde, Mark Addy, Lana Moorcroft, Luke Treadaway, Miles Jupp, Lola-Rose Maxwell, Josie Lawrence, Karl Collins, Emily Lloyd-Saini

CREW: Nick Moorcroft (director, writer), Meg Leonard (writer), James Spring (producer), Toby Moore (cinematographer), Johnny Daukes (editor)

PLOT: In the West Country, a divided community rallies behind its local failing pub when it begins brewing real ale and subsequently enters the Great British Beer Awards…

      FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

      • There’s nothing like a good pint, especially the one that this fresh British crowd-pleaser is understandably eager to promote
      • It comes from the mind of filmmaker Nick Moorcroft, previously behind local box office hits like Fisherman’s Friends and Finding Your Feet
      • A real who’s-who of British talent has lined up to take part, including former Inbetweener James Buckley, TV star Martin Clunes, and Jonno Davies (previously seen as the monkey-fied version of Robbie Williams in Better Man)
      • Parts of the movie were filmed at the real-life Great British Beer Awards, adding a level of authenticity you don’t often see in these types of films
      • With its cheery premise and winning cast of characters, it’ll make you want to sip on a nice pint straight afterwards

Mother’s Pride is showing in cinemas from Friday 6 March 2026

Sound of Falling (dir. Mascha Schilinski)

CAST: Hanna Heckt, Lena Urzendowsky, Laeni Geiseler, Susanne Wuest, Luise Heyer, Lea Drinda, Florian Geißelmann, Greta Krämer, Claudia Geisler-Bading, Zoë Baier, Konstantin Lindhorst, Luzia Oppermann, Gode Benedix, Filip Schnack, Martin Rother, Andreas Anke, Liane Düsterhöft, Lucas Prisor, Ninel Geiger, Helena Lüer, Anastasia Cherepakha, Bärbel Schwarz

CREW: Mascha Schilinski (director, writer), Louise Peter (writer), Burkhard Althoff, Melvina Kotios, Lasse Scharpen and Lucas Schmidt (producers), Michael Fiedler and Eike Hosenfeld (composers), Fabian Gamper (cinematographer), Evelyn Rack (editor)

PLOT: On a farm in the Altmark region in Germany, four generations of women spanning over a century – from young Alma (Heckt) in the 1910s to wife and mother Christa (Heyer) in the 2020s – experience a series of life-shaping encounters…

      FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

      • The haunting second feature from German filmmaker Mascha Schilinski is a visually striking and thematically relevant study of womanhood over the decades
      • Four separate stories set in various time periods are told in non-linear fashion alongside one another, each connected in unexpected yet poetic fashion
      • It was awarded the Jury Prize at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, which it shared with Óliver Laxe’s striking Oscar-nominated epic Sirât
      • Similar to Sirât for Spain, the film was also chosen to represent Germany for the International Feature Film Oscar and even made it onto the initial shortlist, but ultimately it wasn’t nominated (unlike Sirât, which was)
      • With its striking cinematography and heavy yet important themes, this is a real arthouse treat which will stay with you for a very long time

Sound of Falling is showing in cinemas from Friday 6 March 2026

      Dolly (dir. Rod Blackhurst)

CAST: Max the Impaler, Fabianne Therese, Seann William Scott, Russ Tiller, Michalina Scorzelli, Kate Cobb, Ethan Suplee

CREW: Rod Blackhurst (director, writer, producer), Brandon Weavil (writer), Joseph C. Grano, Noah Lang, Bryce McGuire, Ross O’Connor, Esteban Sanchez, Isaiah Smallman and Betty Tong (producers), Nick Bohun (composer), Justin Derry (cinematographer), Justin Oakley (editor)

PLOT: Whilst hiking with her boyfriend Chase (Scott), Macy (Therese) is abducted and held captive by a terrifying figure known as Dolly (Max the Impaler), who intends to raise her as their infant child…

      FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

      • This terrifying throwback to classic grindhouse horrors like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre introduces an unsettling new villain to rival Leatherface
      • It is a feature-length expansion of director and co-writer Rod Blackhurst’s short film Babygirl (definitely not to be confused with the Nicole Kidman erotic thriller of the same name!)
      • WWE champion Max the Impaler plays the deranged masked killer of the title, and they steal the entire movie from the likes of American Pie alumni Seann William Scott and lead hero Fabianne Therese
      • As you can expect from the premise, there’s plenty of disturbing imagery as well as some gnarly violence to please horror fans everywhere
      • With its intense scares coming from the horrible things humans can do to other humans, it is a frighteningly real horror which might not be too far removed from our own reality

Dolly is showing in cinemas from Friday 6 March 2026

      Breaking Social (dir. Fredrik Gertten)

CAST: Rutger Bregman, Gerald Bryson, Sarah Chayes, Pasquale Cioffi, Jennifer Craig, Brett Daniels, Joanna Demarco, Romina Escudero, Matthew Caruana Galizia, Peter S. Goodman, Sven Hughes, Pablo Laso, Angelika Maldanadonoz, Ivanna Olivares Miranda, Valentina Miranda, Andrea Gana Munoz, Octavio Gana Munoz, Caroline Muscat, Michelle Valentin Nieves, Juan Vicente Olivaresa, Derrick Palmer, Dominiique Pastein, Rob Robinson, Paloma Rodriguez, Christian Smalls, Connor Spence, Carl-Henric Svanberg

CREW: Fredrik Gertten (director, producer), Margarete Jangård (producer), Florencia Di Concilio (composer), Janice D’Avila (cinematographer), Benjamin Binderup (editor)

PLOT: An examination of the numerous international events that inspired people to stand up and protest against the corruption and inequality of the world…

      FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

      • With the world succumbing to greed and selfishness, particularly among those in power, this documentary serves as a reminder of what we should all be fighting for
      • Filmmaker Fredrik Gertten explores how the wealthy elites essentially control every aspect of our lives, creating a kleptocracy that only benefits the rich and exploits the poor
      • Across the world, we also get to see the anger and fierce determination of the exploited workers who have had enough and feel the need to take to the streets to vocalise their frustrations
      • Gertten captures protests, union strikes and episodes of activism that highlight the inequalities we all face
      • It offers hope that even in today’s increasingly cynical world there will always be people who know when to make a stand and who to fight back against

Breaking Social is showing in cinemas from Friday 6 March 2026

What’s Showing At Home This Week?

      War Machine (dir. Patrick Hughes)

CAST: Alan Ritchson, Dennis Quaid, Stephan James, Jai Courtney, Esai Morales, Keiynan Lonsdale, Daniel Webber, Jake Ryan, Blake Richardson, Jack Patten, Jacob Hohua, Alex King, Joshua Diaz, Will Curtis, Jarryd Goundrey, Thomas Evans

CREW: Patrick Hughes (director, writer, producer), James Beaufort (writer), Todd Lieberman and Alexander Young (producers), Dmitri Golovko (composer), Aaron Morton (cinematographer), Andy Canny (editor)

PLOT: At a special ops training camp, the final shortlist of recruits – including 81 (Ritchson) – suddenly find themselves facing off against an unlikely threat, one that may not be of this planet…

      FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

      • The title is to be taken quite literally in director Patrick Hughes’s gritty and action-packed sci-fi thriller that’s mixed with pro-militaristic imagery
      • Hughes, best known for The Hitman’s Bodyguard and The Expendables 3, also co-writes the script with James Beaufort, who’s been tapped to work on a script for the upcoming remake of The Raid
      • Representing the human side is Alan Ritchson, who puts his exceptionally muscular physique and natural charisma to exceptional use as he fights unknown enemies
      • Meanwhile, some gripping effects create a robotic creature that’s like if the Predator joined forces with the ED-209 from RoboCop
      • Whichever side ends up winning, it will feel like everyone who sits down to watch this exciting new action offering will be the true victors

War Machine is streaming exclusively on Netflix from Friday 6 March 2026

What’s Returning to Cinemas This Week?

      Hard Boiled (dir. John Woo)

PLOT: In Hong Kong, toughened police inspector “Tequila” Yuen (Yun-Fat) teams with undercover agent Alan (Chi-Wai) for a plot to take down triad boss Johnny Wong (Wong) and his ruthless criminal empire…

      FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

      • John Woo’s action masterpiece is back on the big screen with an all-new 4K restoration
      • The film helped cement Woo’s status as an action movie legend, while lead actors Chow Yun-Fat and Tony Leung Chi-Wai became international stars for their awesome screen chemistry
      • It features some of the most awe-inspiring action sequences ever put to film, complete with Woo’s signature over-the-top style that heightens every punch, kick, gunshot and beyond
      • Many of today’s action filmmakers have cited this film as a core influence on their style of filmmaking, which goes to show how vital to the genre Woo’s movie has become
      • If you want nothing but balls-to-the-wall action, then you’d be foolish to miss out on experiencing this genuine classic on the biggest screen possible
