Movie of the Week

Scream 7 (dir. Kevin Williamson)

Jackson, David Arquette, Matthew Lillard, Scott Foley

CREW: Kevin Williamson (director, writer), Guy Busick (writer), Paul Neinstein, William Sherak and James Vanderbilt (producers), Marco Beltrami (composer), Ramsey Nickell (cinematographer), Jim Page (editor)

PLOT: When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the small town where former survivor Sidney Prescott (Campbell) has built a new life for herself, she realises that her teenage daughter Tatum (May) is their latest target…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • After sitting out the last entry due to pay disputes, Neve Campbell returns to the slasher franchise that turned her into a household name
  • Also returning for more masked killer mayhem is Courteney Cox as the ever-determined reporter Gale Weathers, as well as a few other familiar faces from movies past
  • Among the latest potential victims/culprits this time round include rising stars Mckenna Grace, Anna Camp, Celeste O’Connor and Isabel May, the latter playing Campbell’s on-screen daughter
  • Kevin Williamson, the screenwriter behind the original Wes Craven classic, was brought on to direct after the film underwent a creative overhaul following the controversial firing of series star Melissa Barrera and departure of original filmmaker Christopher Landon and co-star Jenna Ortega
  • Fans of the ongoing series will find plenty of familiar hallmarks to enjoy, in addition to a few exciting twists that flip the formula on its head once more

Scream 7 is showing in cinemas from Friday 27 February 2026

PLOT: In 18th century Manchester, Ann Lee (Seyfried) discovers a radical religious sect that would become known as the Shaker movement, and quickly becomes its figurehead who would soon be known among her followers as the female embodiment of Christ…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • The makers of last year’s awards hit The Brutalist are back with a truly original cinematic experience that brings into the spotlight an unusual true story within the world of religion
  • Mona Fastvold, the co-writer of The Brutalist with her husband Brady Corbet (who co-writes and produces here), directs the stranger-than-fiction tale of a religious martyr with surprisingly progressive ideals
  • Amanda Seyfried delivers a career-high performance as the titular Ann Lee, heading an ensemble cast that also includes Thomasin McKenzie, Lewis Pullman and Christopher Abbott
  • Did I mention that it’s also a musical? Yes, the film combines classic Shaker hymns with some mesmerising choreography (and a couple of original tunes by Oscar-winning composer Daniel Blumberg) to create a song-and-dance spectacle like no other!
  • It’s an inventive and wholly creative piece by passionate filmmakers whose fascination with its central subject will rub off on all viewers

The Testament of Ann Lee is showing in cinemas from Friday 27 February 2026

Sirât (dir. Óliver Laxe)

CAST: Sergi López, Bruno Núñez Arjona, Richard Bellamy, Stefania Gadda, Joshua Liam Henderson, Tonin Janvier, Jade Oukid

PLOT: In the mountains of southern Morocco, Luis (López) arrives at a rave with his young son Esteban (Arjona) in search of his daughter, but when the ravers are forced to disband due to an unfolding international incident, Luis and Esteban accompany them on a perilous journey through the desert…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • Filmmaker Óliver Laxe presents a mind-blowing odyssey to rival Homer’s epic poem, one that comes with a thumping EDM soundtrack (courtesy of French musician Kangding Ray)
  • The Spanish-language production makes effective use of barren landscapes within both Spain and Morocco, adding to the bleak and possibly post-apocalyptic atmosphere
  • It boats Spanish auteur Pedro Almodóvar and his brother Agustín as producers, ensuring that this unpredictable and sometimes nerve-ridden journey comes with a degree of prestige
  • Audiences and critics have sung their praises of the film, with it receiving the Jury Prize at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, and more recently a heap of nominations from the Oscars, the Golden Globes and the BAFTAs
  • Like your typical rave, you’ll be sent into a blissful trance as you experience the devastating yet oddly hopeful chaos whilst dancing like it’s truly the end of the world

Sirât is showing in cinemas from Friday 27 February 2026

The Spin (dir. Michael Head)

CAST: Brenock O’Connor, Owen Colgan, Tara Lynne O’Neill, Maura Higgins, Kimberly Wyatt, Leah O’Rourke, Amy McElhatton, Ian Toner, Claire Malone, Adam McFarland, Cian Newell

CREW: Michael Head (director), Colin Broderick (writer), Ismail Ismail and Jake Jacovides (producers), Mark McCausland (composer), Sebastian Cort (cinematographer), Aideen Johnston (editor)

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • This road trip movie from Ireland is not only sweet and uplifting, but carries a tune that will elevate the spirits of anyone who watches it
  • It is based on a semiautobiographical short story by musician Mark McCausland, who also provides a soundtrack filled with gorgeous folk songs
  • Actors Brenock O’Connor and Owen Colgan make a fine pair, and there’s plentiful support from the likes of Derry Girls standout Tara Lynne O’Neill
  • Take in the luscious scenery as you travel with the lead protagonists and the various eccentric characters that they meet along the way across the Irish countryside landscapes
  • With plenty of good-natured optimism at its disposal, this is a journey that you’ll want to revisit time and time again

The Spin is showing in cinemas from Friday 27 February 2026

All You Need is Kill (dir. Ken’ichirô Akimoto)

CAST (ENGLISH VERSION): Stephanie Sheh, Jadon Muniz, Lisa Kay Jennings, Cherami Leigh, Jonny Cruz

CAST (JAPANESE VERSION): Ai Mikami, Natsuki Hanae, Kana Hanazawa, Hiccorohee, Mô Chûgakusei

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • The acclaimed sci-fi manga gets a gorgeously designed anime adaptation that captures the intricate storytelling perfectly
  • If the premise sounds somewhat familiar, that’s because the manga was previously adapted into the hugely underrated Tom Cruise vehicle Edge of Tomorrow
  • This version adapts the source material more closely, under the direction of Ken’ichirô Akimoto who makes his filmmaking debut here after previously working as a CG animator
  • Its hand-drawn animation is riddled with style, especially as our hero finds new and interesting ways to deal with their repetitive new structure
  • Just as Edge of Tomorrow was, this is a rousing and delightful adaptation that offers fun new layers to the original story

All You Need is Kill is showing in cinemas from Friday 27 February 2026

CREW: Andrew Stanton (director), Colby Day (writer), Jared Goldman (producer), Thomas Newman (composer), Ole Bratt Birkeland (cinematographer), Mollie Golstein (editor)

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • Pixar director Andrew Stanton, known for Finding Nemo, WALL-E and the upcoming Toy Story 5, dabbles in heavily ambitious live-action storytelling which will blow your mind
  • Stanton directs from a script by Colby Day (previously of the dramatic Adam Sandler vehicle Spaceman), which was featured on the 2017 Black List of best unproduced screenplays
  • A shining ensemble cast including Rashida Jones, Daveed Diggs and SNL breakout Kate McKinnon bring versatility as well as empathetic energy to a ponderous and far-reaching multi-narrative
  • It debuted at last month’s Sundance Film Festival, where it was awarded the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize, which is given to films that offer an outstanding depiction of science, technology etc
  • With the likes of 2001: A Space Odyssey, Magnolia and Interstellar being cited as strong influences, you know that you’re in for a seriously cerebral treat

  • Those who miss when films like The Mask of Zorro, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World and even the notorious bomb Cutthroat Island were all the rage will be delighted by this engaging throwback

Paul McCartney: Man on the Run (dir. Morgan Neville)

CAST: Paul McCartney

  • The former Beatle also opens up about some of the heartbreak he endured during his life, much of which is visualised through some inventive editing that keeps it all engaging
  • It’ll more than do for Beatles fans who are already impatient for director Sam Mendes’s upcoming four-feature biopic of the legendary band, which is set to feature Paul Mescal playing McCartney
