This Week’s Movie Menu (9 – 15 February 2026)

Feel the love this Valentine’s Day with a number of romantic (and not quite as romantic) new films to take your date to, whether it’s a starry rendition of a classic novel, the story of an unlikely sports star, and a looney animated adventure…

Movie of the Week

“Wuthering Heights” (dir. Emerald Fennell)

CAST: Margot Robbie, Jacob Elordi, Hong Chau, Shazad Latif, Alison Oliver, Martin Clunes, Ewan Mitchell, Charlotte Mellington, Owen Cooper, Vy Nguyen

CREW: Emerald Fennell (director, writer, producer), Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara and Margot Robbie (producers), Anthony Willis (composer), Linus Sandgren (cinematographer), Victoria Boydell (editor)

PLOT: In 18th century Yorkshire, Catherine Earnshaw (Robbie) finds herself falling for the handsome Heathcliff (Elordi) despite his lower status…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • After gaining attention with Saltburn and her Oscar-winning debut Promising Young Woman, writer-director Emerald Fennell turns her sights towards a provocative new adaptation of Emily Brontë’s classic novel
  • Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi play the tragic lovers Catherine and Heathcliff, while newcomer Charlotte Mellington and Adolescence breakout Owen Cooper play their respective younger selves
  • It’s filled with dazzling gothic imagery, set to Linus Sandgren’s gorgeously old-fashioned cinematography as well as a soundtrack featuring original songs by Charli XCX
  • Don’t expect a straightforward adaptation of the book, as there may be some rather interesting surprises that could throw the entire project for a loop (hence the mysterious quotation marks around the title)
  • Valentine’s Day could not be a more perfect time to release this romantic and titillating new version of the timeless story that will make viewers fall in love all over again

“Wuthering Heights” is showing in cinemas from Friday 13 February 2026

PLOT: In a world entirely populated by animals, Will (McLaughlin) is a small goat who dreams of professionally playing the fierce full-contact sport known as roarball, which is dominated by the fastest, fiercest and biggest animals around, but when he finally gets his chance to prove himself, he ends up transforming the sport forever…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • The latest offering from Sony Pictures Animations, the studio behind the Spider-Verse movies and Netflix’s K-Pop Demon Hunters, is an energetic fun-filled outing for the whole family
  • It combines the animal antics of the Zootropolis movies with the high-octane sports action of Space Jam, complete with stylish and creative twists that help it stand out
  • The stacked voice cast includes Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin as the titular goat, as well as numerous character actors like Gabrielle Union, David Harbour, Nick Kroll and Patton Oswalt
  • Further cementing its ties to the basketball culture it’s clearly inspired by, the film is produced by superstar athlete Stephen Curry who also has a voiceover role in the film
  • With loads of laughs, plenty of heart and lots of dunking balls into baskets, this is in prime position to be the GOAT of animated films in 2026

Goat is showing in cinemas from Friday 13 February 2026

Crime 101 (dir. Bart Layton)

CAST: Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Barry Keoghan, Halle Berry, Monica Barbaro, Corey Hawkins, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Nick Nolte, Tate Donovan, Devon Bostick, Payman Maadi, Babak Tafti, Deborah Hedwall, Paul Adelstein, Drew Powell, Matthew Del Negro, John Douglas

PLOT: In Los Angeles, Davis (Hemsworth) is a career thief whose high-stakes heists continuously evade the authorities, including relentless detective Lt. Lubesnik (Ruffalo), but when he crosses paths with disillusioned insurance executive Sharon (Berry) and rival thief Orman (Keoghan) whilst planning his biggest ever score, the stakes are raised higher than ever…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • With this star-studded crime caper, you’ll be whisked back to a time when similar movies like Heat and The Town were all the rage in Hollywood
  • This adaptation of Don Winslow’s novel comes from filmmaker Bart Layton, who previously proved his mettle with real-life crime stories The Imposter and American Animals
  • Marvel veterans Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo are just some of the huge names in the cast, which also includes Oscar nominees Barry Keoghan and Monica Barbaro, legendary character actors like Nick Nolte and Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Oscar-winner Halle Berry
  • You’ll constantly be on the edge of your seat as you venture deeper into this criminal world where nothing is ever as it seems
  • It’s a thrilling ride that gives audiences everything they could possibly want from a movie of this calibre, especially with the star power that it constantly flaunts

Crime 101 is showing in cinemas from Wednesday 11 February 2026

Whistle (dir. Corin Hardy)

CAST: Dafne Keen, Sophie Nélisse, Sky Yang, Jhaleil Swaby, Ali Skovbye, Percy Hynes White, Michelle Fairley, Nick Frost

CREW: Corin Hardy (director), Owen Egerton (writer), Whitney Brown, David Gross and Macdara Kelleher (producers), Doomphonic (composer), Björn Charpentier (cinematographer), Nick Emerson (editor)

PLOT: After stumbling upon an ancient Aztec death whistle that has the power to summon the future deaths of those who blow it, a group of high school misfits set out to stop the deadly sequence of events they have inadvertently set into motion…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • Director Corin Hardy presents a good old-fashioned horror about teens possessing power that no human should ever grasp in their hands
  • The concept is adapted from the short story by Owen Egerton (who also provides the screenplay), which owes a strong debt to classic cautionary tales like Wishmaster and Hellraiser
  • It is a Canadian and Irish co-production, with Irish director Hardy largely shooting on location in Ontario, with an international cast that includes Dafne Keen, Sophie Nélisse, and even Nick Frost
  • There’s some chilling horror filmmaking as the cinematography constantly plays around with the surrounding darkness to create a terrifying atmosphere
  • You won’t ever look at or even use a whistle in quite the same way again after seeing what deadly forces a simple blow can summon

Whistle is showing in cinemas from Friday 13 February 2026

Looney Tunes: The Day the Earth Blew Up (dir. Pete Browngardt)

CAST: Eric Bauza, Candi Milo, Peter MacNicol, Fred Tatasciore, Laraine Newman, Wayne Knight, Ruth Clampett, Andrew Kishino, Kimberly Brooks, Keith Ferguson, Carlos Alazraqui, Rachel Butera, Pete Browngardt, Nick Simotas

CREW: Pete Browngardt (director, writer, producer), Darrick Bachman, Kevin Costello, Andrew Dickman, David Gemmill, Alex Kirwan, Ryan Kramer, Jason Reicher, Michael Ruocco, Johnny Ryan and Eddie Trugueros (writers), Sam Register (producer), Joshua Moshier (composer), Nick Simotas (editor)

PLOT: After uncovering a secret alien mind control plot whilst working at the local bubble gum factory, Porky Pig and Daffy Duck (both Bauza) become Earth’s least likely heroes as they set out to save the world, so long as they don’t drive each other crazy beforehand…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • The very first fully animated original movie to star two of the most iconic Looney Tunes characters finally makes it to UK screens to make British audiences everywhere laugh like little loonies!
  • Daffy Duck and Porky Pig have never been funnier together than they are in this wacky tale that spoofs classic sci-fi B-movies with that recognisable Looney Tunes style
  • The hand-drawn animation is in line with the recent strand of Looney Tunes cartoons created for US streamer HBO Max, which were developed by this film’s director Pete Browngardt
  • Similar to the upcoming Looney Tunes movie Coyote vs. Acme, the film was temporarily made homeless after its original release was scrapped by the restructuring at Warner Bros. Discovery, but was eventually picked up by Ketchup Entertainment in the US (they’re also releasing Coyote vs. Acme later this year)
  • Die-hard fans of the original Looney Tunes cartoons that many of us grew up with will definitely want to experience the lunacy of these iconic characters on the big screen

Looney Tunes: The Day the Earth Blew Up is showing in cinemas from Friday 13 February 2026

Stitch Head (dir. Steve Hudson)

CAST: Asa Butterfield, Joel Fry, Tia Bannon, Rob Brydon, Seth Usdenov, Alison Steadman, Fern Brady, Jamali Maddix, Sway Clarke, Paul Tylack, Ryan Sampson

CREW: Steve Hudson (director, writer), Sonja Ewers and Mark Mertens (producers), Nick Urata (composer), Dieter Riepenhausen (editor)

PLOT: Stitch Head (Butterfield) is the neglected creation of a mad scientist (Brydon) who decides to join a travelling circus run by the greedy Ringmaster Fulbert Freakfinder (Usdenov), but his fellow creations – including a new arrival named Creature (Fry) – cause him to have second thoughts…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • Kids and parents will enjoy the monstrous delights of this family-friendly animated adventure
  • It’s an adaptation of the graphic novel by British author Guy Bass, with production being handled by numerous international companies in the likes of Germany, Luxembourg and India
  • The English voice cast includes Asa Butterfield as the lovable title character, as well as Joel Fry as the bumbling but good-natured Creature and Rob Brydon as their neglectful creator
  • There are some solid life lessons that children can learn about trusting others, understanding who they are, and how to connect with those who may be different to us
  • With half-term coming up, this goes right alongside the week’s other family movies as yet another solid choice to keep the young ones occupied with!

Stitch Head is showing in cinemas from Friday 13 February 2026

PLOT: Amélie (Gilliam/Charpentier) is the young daughter of a Belgian family living in 1960s Japan, but as she approaches her third birthday a series of life-altering events shapes her understanding of the world around her…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • The world according to a toddler has never before been captured so beautifully than in this stunning animated feature
  • It is an exceptionally stylish adaptation of Belgian writer Amélie Nothomb’s semiautobiographical novella The Character of Rain, inspired by her own experiences growing up in Japan
  • Some stellar hand-drawn visuals accompany the deceptively simple plot, in part inspired by traditional Japanese anime while adding its own distinct flavour
  • It’s currently nominated for the Best Animated Feature Oscar, going up against heavy hitters like K-Pop Demon Hunters and Zootropolis 2
  • You’ll be endlessly charmed by its innocent view of the world, as well as its profound wisdom about what it is to be alive and make the most of what we have

Little Amélie or the Character of Rain is showing in cinemas from Friday 13 February 2026

The President’s Cake (dir. Hasan Hadi)

CAST: Baneen Ahmad Nayyef, Sajad Mohamad Qasem, Waheed Thabet Khreibat, Rahim AlHaj, Waheeda Thabet, Muthanna Malaghi, Ahmad Qasem Saywan, Maytham Mreidi, Thaer Salem, Fatima Abouharoon, Mohammed Rheimeh, Rokia Alwadi, Abdelkarim Jasim

CREW: Hasan Hadi (director, writer), Leah Chen Baker (producer), Tudor Vladimir Panduru (cinematographer), Andu Radu (editor)

PLOT: In 1990s Iraq, nine-old-year Lamia (Nayyef) is tasked with gathering ingredients to bake a mandatory cake to celebrate the birthday of President Saddam Hussein, which turns out to be a more difficult task than she could have predicted…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • This original coming-of-age Iraqi drama shows what it is to grow up in an authoritarian regime through a simple yet all-consuming task of making a birthday cake
  • Filmmaker Hasan Hadi, making his directorial debut here, uses mostly untrained actors to play the naturalistic roles of ordinary citizens living under Saddam Hussein’s rule
  • Chris Columbus, the director of beloved coming-of-age classics like Home Alone and the first two Harry Potter movies, is an executive producer on the film
  • It became the first film from Iraq to compete in the Director’s Fortnight section at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, winning not just the Audience Award but also the festival’s Camera D’Or prize for best first feature
  • The film offers a fascinatingly relatable window into a repressed environment that feels increasingly important as many other countries begin hurtling down their own paths toward authoritarianism

The President’s Cake is showing in cinemas from Friday 13 February 2026

It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley (dir. Amy Berg)

CAST: Jeff Buckley, Mary Guibert, Rebecca Moore, Joan Wasser, Ben Harper, Susan Silver, Michele Anthony, Aimee Mann, Chris Cornell

CREW: Amy Berg (director, producer), Jennie Bedusa, Mandy Chang, Christine Connor, Ryan Heller and Mathew Roozen (producers), Wolfgang Held, Jenna Rosher, Curren Sheldon and Alex Takats (cinematographers), Stacy Goldate and Brian A. Kates (editors)

PLOT: A look at the tragic life and career of musician Jeff Buckley…

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • The all-too short legacy of Jeff Buckley, who sadly died in 1997 at age 30 after releasing just one studio album, is explored in Oscar-nominated filmmaker Amy Berg’s commemorative documentary
  • Berg incorporates never-before-heard voice messages from Buckley as well as previously unseen home footage into a film that aims to present a clear idea of who Buckley was
  • Buckley’s mother Mary Guibert is interviewed on-camera about her son, along with the singer’s friends, ex-partners and fellow musicians like Aimee Mann and Chris Cornell
  • Brad Pitt is an executive producer on the project, having previously approached Guibert about potentially playing Buckley in a biopic that never materialised
  • As you see the raw talent and general goodness within this person, you realise just how much of a loss it is to no longer have someone like Jeff Buckley in our world

It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley is showing in cinemas from Friday 13 February 2026

FIVE REASONS TO BE EXCITED:

  • Tyler Perry’s Madea franchise gets its first major spin-off starring the breakout character Uncle Joe
  • In addition to writing and directing, Perry also reprises his roles as both Joe and Madea (the latter receiving a cameo appearance this time around) for a wacky new adventure
  • Expect some wild teenage/young adult scenarios that the ever-inappropriate Joe becomes central to, all while retaining his uncouth charm from previous appearances

  • Fans of the series will find plenty to enjoy with this hilarious outing with just one of Madea’s many, many relatives!
